Summer Vehicle Maintenance Tips

Keep your car in good shape this on a freeway

With temperatures rising rapidly, your car’s risk for overheating and experiencing other issues increases exponentially.  To ensure that your vehicle makes it through this season, here are some of the essential maintenance tasks that you should stay on top of.

  • Clean Your Windshield Wipers

While you may associate your windshield wipers with wet weather, don’t forget that you will use your wipers to clear your windshield of dust.  If your windshield wipers are worn out and dirty, then using them could actually make your visibility worse.  To ensure that this doesn’t happen to you, make sure you thoroughly clean your windshield wipers every time you wash your car or wipe down your car’s windows.  If the wipers are still making streaks, then it’s time to replace your wiper blades completely.

  • Inspect Your Car’s Cooling System

Before you set out on a drive, make sure that you have enough coolant in the tank.  You should also inspect your hoses, belts, and radiator cap.  If it’s been a while, then you should take your car into the shop to have your car’s cooling system flushed and refilled.  Auto experts recommend getting this service every 24-months or so.

  • Check Your Tire Pressure

You should check your tire pressure every month, particularly before long drives.  Tires are sensitive to heat, and exposure to high temperatures can actually cause your tire pressure to increase.  As this increases your risk of a blowout, it’s important that you continuously monitor your tire pressure to keep it in a safe range.

  • Test Your AC

The last thing you want during a long drive is for your AC to go out.  This is what you should have a mechanic look at your AC system, especially if you have noticed that it’s starting to feel weak.

These are some of the things that you should do to take care of your car this summer.  Want another way to protect your vehicle?  Then contact the experts at ISU-Wissink Insurance to secure the comprehensive auto insurance that you need.  We are ready to assist you with all your car coverage needs today.
