February is American Heart Month and, in honor of that, we’d love to share some facts about heart disease with you.
“Heart Disease” is actually a catchall term which could refer to many different conditions all of which related to plaque build-up in arterial walls. This increases your likelihood of stroke or heart attack. Heart disease, in fact, is the leading cause of death in the United States – causing one in four American Deaths on an annual basis.
Easy ways to prevent heart disease include good diet and exercise in order to maintain a healthy weight. If you have pre-existing conditions that may affect your heart health, ensure that you manage them with your healthcare professional. You’ll also want to make certain that you’re up on your check-ups, and that you stay current with information about your cholesterol and blood pressure (which can affect your likelihood of dealing with heart disease).
