What are Qualifying Events under Covered California?

Covered California is the new health insurance marketplace with different policy options available to best fit your needs and help make premiums more affordable. You must find and get a plan during the open-enrollment period from October 15, 2013 through March 31, 2014. Every year after, the period runs from October 15 to December 7. Qualifying events allow you to enroll outside of the open-enrollment periods and include several different situations.

One of the qualifying events include the birth of a new baby, in which case you may enroll up to 60 days following this event. This also applies for other acceptable events including loss of employment, a recent marriage, or divorce. Another situation is an increase of income, which causes Medi-Cal coverage cancellation. In this case, you also receive special enrollment privileges into Covered California.

If you experienced one of the eligible qualifying events and enroll within 60 days of that event, Covered California cannot deny you health insurance coverage. For more about qualifying events in California, contact ISU Wissink Insurance, a certified agent in Culver City.
