Halloween Costume & Trick or Treating Safety Tips

Culver City Halloween Costumes and SafetyHappy Halloween from the ISU Wissink Insurance Team! The holidays are a time of family bonding and there’s no better family celebration than on Halloween! As enjoyable as Halloween can be, it can also be extremely dangerous with a heavier presence of drunk drivers on the road. We want your holiday plans to go as smoothly as possible, which is why we have gathered these Halloween costume ideas and safety tips:

  • We all know how stubborn our children can be when it comes to choosing their costume, however, make sure that their costume is safe and won’t put them in danger. If they insist on being a witch in a black gown, you must add reflective tape to the back of their costume and to their trick or treating bag to make sure that drivers on the road can see them.
  • Likewise, make sure that any costume props are flexible and soft. Your son’s ninja costume will be just as complete with a rubber sword.
  • If possible, try to avoid any facemasks that will obstruct your child’s vision. These can be extremely dangerous while crossing streets and driveways.
  • When applying face paint to perfect your child’s bumble bee costume, make sure to test the paint on a small area of their skin first. Some face paint causes irritation on young, fragile skin.
  • While trick or treating, it’s important that you have flashlights and extra batteries with you at all times. Also, you’ll want to make sure to carry a cell phone on you in case of an emergency.
  • Most importantly, always be on the lookout for reckless drivers and hold your child’s hand while crossing the street.
